Museum of Modern Art & Museum of Fine Arts

Housed in the former train station of Tétouan — a stunning architectural work by renowned Spanish architect Julio Rodrigues Roda — these museums beautifully symbolize the shared Hispano-Moroccan heritage. To begin with, the museum is organized into four sections. The first explores the Tétouan pictorial school from 1913 to 1956. Next, the second section focuses on Moroccan pioneers who shaped the national artistic identity between 1956 and 1979. Then, the third part highlights artistic openness and the spring exhibitions from 1979 to 1993. Finally, the fourth section showcases contemporary trends from 1993 to the present day. Altogether, this center offers visitors a compelling journey through time, revealing the diversity of artistic experiences and expressions in modern Moroccan art.

Madrasa Loukach (Lucas)

The Madrasa Loukach (Lucas) Museum in Tétouan, built in 1758 by Sultan Mohammed ben Abdallah, was originally a school and residence for students studying theology. Today, it stands as an outstanding example of Andalusian-Moroccan architecture, featuring beautiful interior courtyards, intricate mosaics, and finely decorated arches. After decades of use, the building was closed in the 1980s. Later, it was transformed into a museum dedicated to religious heritage and traditional education, and ultimately, it was inaugurated by King Mohammed VI in 2011. Inside, the museum showcases exhibits on Islamic education, local culture, and religious traditions. Among the highlights, visitors can discover ancient manuscripts, calligraphy tools, and religious artifacts. As a result, the museum provides a unique insight into the historical importance of education in Tétouan.

This museum, inaugurated in 2018, is entirely dedicated to the city of Tétouan and its representation through the ages. Through a variety of media, including press photos, artwork, postage stamps, reproductions of paintings and engravings, postcards, and maps, it traces the city’s history and transformations between 1525 and 1955.

At the heart of the museum, the magnificent El Oddi House stands out as the centerpiece of the visit. Built in 1920 in the architectural style of the time, it seamlessly integrates local elements with European influences — in particular, Spanish-inspired tiles — making it a key highlight of the experience. Gardens and Natural Spaces

Escape the city’s hustle and immerse yourself in Tétouan’s tranquil gardens and natural spaces, where beauty and serenity converge.

Riad al Ouchak Park or Moulay Rachid Garden

Riad al Ouchak Park, also known as Moulay Rachid Garden, is a serene haven nestled in the heart of Tétouan. Conveniently located along Hassan I Avenue near the Casablanca neighborhood (Casabloki), the park is renowned for its intricate fountains, lush greenery, and shaded pathways — offering the perfect setting for leisurely strolls or quiet reflection.

Originally established in 1926 by Spanish General Orkas, the garden was designed with a geometric layout under the supervision of the then-Mayor of Tétouan, Cajigas. Moreover, Spanish engineer José Gutiérrez Lescura contributed to its design, drawing inspiration from the refined elegance of traditional Andalusian gardens. At the time, it was named “Jardines de Cajigas,” and over the years, it has been known by several other names, including “Parque Cajigas,” “Parque de los Amantes,” and “Parque la Luneta.”

From the very beginning, the park stood out as a unique ecological space, featuring a rich variety of plant species and trees sourced both locally and internationally. Additionally, it once included fishponds and a small zoo with domestic animals and songbirds, which added to its charm and appeal.

Today, Moulay Rachid Garden gracefully blends its historic Andalusian roots with a peaceful atmosphere, making it a beloved destination for both locals and visitors. Thanks to its central location within Tétouan’s vibrant tourist zone, it remains a must-visit spot for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty amidst the city’s dynamic life.

Challal Park (Garden of Waterfalls)

Shallal Park is located in the heart of Tétouan, just a short walk from Moulay Rachid Park, making it an important green space for the city’s residents. In addition to its recreational role, the park also serves as a major passageway for those traveling from the city center to various neighborhoods, such as the Engineers’ Quarter and the Mhanach Quarter.

Stretching over nearly half a kilometer, the park is shaded by a collection of tall trees, which greatly enhance its natural charm. Towering above it, a majestic limestone wall — known locally as “Shallal” — adds to the park’s unique identity. This natural structure, standing between 20 and 35 meters high, is considered one of the region’s most recognizable landmarks.

In earlier years, the wall featured an artificial waterfall, intentionally created as a local tourist attraction and a refreshing escape for both residents and visitors. However, due to geological concerns, authorities later decided to collect and redirect the water through dedicated channels to ensure safety and sustainability.

Today, Shallal Park remains a beloved urban retreat, where history, nature, and daily life intersect — offering a peaceful pause in the heart of a busy city.
