The national carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) announced today the opening of a new air base in Tetouan-Sania R’mel airport in northern Morocco.
A statement from the carrier said the initiative is to expand RAM’s offering in the northern region.
It also seeks to meet the “strong demand for connectivity, and complement the services already available from the Tangier base.”
The new air base will contribute to the launch of several direct flights to European countries, the statement said, recalling the purchase of a dozen new aircraft by Royal Air Maroc.
The national carrier said it will expand its services by connecting the city with Paris, London-Gatwick, Brussels, Barcelona, Madrid, and Malaga, starting March 27.
Domestic flights expansion is also part of the plan as Royal Air Maroc will strengthen direct flights between Tetouan and Casablanca, adding three weekly frequencies. The flights will complement the two flights that are operational on Fridays and Sundays.
CEO of Royal Air Maroc, Hamid Addou, said the opening of the new air base aligns with the company’s commitment to supporting the country’s tourism development.
“It will improve connectivity between the northern region and major European tourist markets, and strengthen the attractiveness of northern Morocco for international travelers,” the RAM CEO said.
Tickets for the new flights will be available for purchase starting today, the statement added, emphasizing that tickets will be available at the Royal Air Maroc website, its call centers, and sales points.
Morocco’s tourism sector is booming as the country recorded over 19 million tourist arrivals last year.
